Tor Russian air missile

The Tor missile system is a Russian, all-weather, low-to-medium altitude, short-range surface-to-air missile system. It is designed to intercept and destroy a variety of aerial threats, including airplanes, helicopters, cruise missiles, precision-guided munitions, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and short-range ballistic threats. The system is known for its ability to operate in adverse weather and electronic warfare environment.

Features of Tor missile system :
  • All-weather, short-range:
The Tor is designed to operate in various weather conditions and provides short-range air defense.
  • Mobile and autonomous:
The system is mounted on a tracked or wheeled chassis, allowing for rapid deployment and autonomous operation.
  • Multiple target engagement:
The Tor can detect and track multiple targets simultaneously and engage up to four targets concurrently.
  • Fast reaction time:
The system boasts a quick reaction time, enabling it to engage threats within seconds of detection.
  • Advanced radar and fire control:
The Tor utilizes advanced radar technology for target detection and tracking, along with a sophisticated fire control system.
Variants:
  • Tor-M1: An earlier variant of the system, also known as SA-15 Gauntlet.
  • Tor-M2: A more advanced version with improved capabilities, such as enhanced radar coverage and increased missile guidance channels.
  • Tor-M2E: A variant of the Tor-M2, featuring a wheeled chassis, a new digital computer system, and all-weather optical tracking.
Capabilities:
  • The Tor can engage targets at ranges up to 12-15 km and altitudes from 10 meters to 10,000 meters.
  • It is effective against a wide range of threats, including fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, UAVs, cruise missiles, and precision-guided munitions.
  • The system is designed to operate in intense electronic warfare environments.
History and Development:
  • The Tor missile system was developed by the Soviet Union, with the land-based version developed alongside a naval variant called 3K95 Kinzhal.
  • The system was designed to be the first air defense system capable of engaging precision-guided weapons day and night in bad weather and jamming
